Do you have a fear of being buried alive? That’s taphophobia. The fear of being buried alive. It was also a very common fear back in the 18th and 19th centuries. They devised many safety mechanisms to save themselves if they were buried alive and incorporated them into the coffin designs These special coffins were ‘Safety Coffins’.
If you were buried by accident, you could free yourself or get help to get you out. Different contraptions from wire connected to bells, to breathing and eating tubes.
